The Quest for India

About

Who we are

The Quest for India is studying Indian art. In particular, we are studying miniature painting and textiles in a personal approach. It consists of fieldwork based on intelligence received from the literature of senior scholars. As we study these arts in this way, we will naturally come into contact with everything, not only the historical backgrounds, religions, cultures and the fashions in those days. The process is really interesting and gives us a thrill.

When we view a good work even once, it never leaves our minds. No matter how old and traditional work is, if it is good work, the work is fresh whenever we view in either today or  hundreds of years later. We believe that such works fascinate people beyond the country, the race and time and have made deep impression in our psyches. Indian miniature painting and textiles are one of those arts.

What we do

Based on research of Indian miniature painting and textiles, we have been endeavouring to make our research findings into some books or some forms so that significance of these arts that fascinates people, can be recognized more than ever. And also, we have  been producing block printed cloth, which is one of the Indian textiles, in a way that close to the old method as possible today.

In the future, we would like to provide a small study space where people can consult books and materials for studing Indian miniature painting and textiles. In any case, we hope that what we are doing will assist to raise the good recognition of those significant arts.
